NEW LEAD TIME for HURRICANES

New tech increases lead time for storms

The 2010 hurricane season has been predicted to be the busiest in years!

The National Hurricane Center has updated its forecast and public advisory systems.

With hope of keeping people informed in the event of a storm, the NHC has increased the lead time for tropical storm and hurricane watches and warnings by 12 hours. 

Watches now will be issued when storm conditions are possible along the coast within 48 hours.

Warnings will be issued when storm conditions are possible within 36 hours.
